Derby witnessed an inter-religion marriage  on last Thursday 10th July 2008  morning at 11.30. The bridegroom Babu hails from  Ankamali and the bride Alda from Kottayam.

The marriage was blessed at Geethabhavan Hindu temple by priests Mukesh.  Babu is a Christian and a singer of Malayalam masses and Alda is Hindu. Alda will be converted to Christianity and their marriage will be blessed again in  Christian church back home by end of this year. Both are  nurses and working now in Hereford, but their adaptation was in Derby.

So, they could not forget Derby and their loving Friends in Derby .

Derby Malayalee Association wishes them a happy and successful married life !!

Attached is the page which has caused strikes and major disruption in Kerala. This is the page from the 7th Standard Social Studies Book which has dragged into controversies.

See yourself and decide whether all these disruptions were really worth !!!

Page 24 - Titled - Jeevan without Religion (Jeevan means Life in malayalam)

The lesson is set in a school room where two parents and their kid meet the Principal for school  admission. The Principal fills in the forms,

Principal: “What is your name?”
“Jeevan”
Principal: “Nice…father’s name?”
“Anwar Rasheed”
Principal: Mother’s name?”
“Lakshmi Devi”

The Principal  looks at the parents

Principal: “What should I fill in for the kid’s religion?”
Parents : “Keep it blank…or else add No Religion”

Principal: “Caste”
Parents : “not needed”

The Principal leans back on his chair and asks solemnly

Principal: “What if he wants a religion when he grows up?”
Parents : “If he wants a religion when he grows up, he can choose the one he likes then”

Derby Malayalee Association conducted a day out to Blackpool on 14th June 2008. We started at 8:20 AM from Derby and reached Blackpool at 11 AM . The weather was extremely good in Blackpool. We started back at 8PM from Blackpool and reached derby at 10:30 PM.

There was an attendance of 75 people including kids. Hope everyone enjoyed . Please let us know if you have any comments . Both Good and Bad comments are welcome.

Starting at 7:40 AM from Derby - Arriving Blackpool at 11 AM

Return Journey starting at 7:55 PM and reaching Derby at 10:45 PM.

We have limited seats of just 68 for this trip at the moment. Please make the booking with either of the executive members below at the earliest to avoid disappointment.
Price per person for the trip will be £12 . Children aged 4 or below can come free if they don’t require a seat.
